Sea of Love
The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale by the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a merperson to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. The tale was first published in 1837 and has been adapted to various media including musical theater and animated film.
Essentially it's a tale of love, and the tragic loss of that love. The Little Mermaid (who remains unnamed) is a haunting character, her essence forever engraved in our minds. The saddest theme of the story is how the Little Mermaid, a woman, is treated. She longs to be heard, to be love, and to be loved. Her feelings and words are never heard by her prince in the end. It's a story that transcends time, place, and death; a story that tests the will and fire of the spirit that lives within us all.
